The nations of the world long for peace. They have discovered that by talking and working together, hostilities can often be avoided. The end of the cold war has made this dream seem close at hand and has encouraged the belief that world peace can be achieved through human efforts. Yet peace eludes us. Among the worlds hot spots is the struggle over Jerusalem as prophesied in Zechariah 12:3. The conventional wisdom is that if mankind can resolve this conflict, there is nothing standing in the way of world peace. Daniel 9:27 says a world leader will bring the promise of peace to the world by confirming a treaty with the parties involved in the conflict over Jerusalem. But this will be a false peace. The confirmation of the peace treaty will start the clock on a 7-year time period that will begin peaceful but will see the deaths of over half the worlds population (Revelation 6:8, 9:15) and end up with Armageddon (Revelation 16:16). True peace will not be achieved until Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), returns to end Armageddon and set up His Kingdom on earth when "they shall beat their swords into plowshares" (Micah 4:3). Be ready before its too late, "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31).
