Gods plan for His children is to experience spiritual growth. God has saved us for a purpose, we each have an area of ministry for which we are called (2 Corinthians 5:18). Those He saved, He has gifted with special abilities to help and encourage others in an area of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12). Spiritual growth is necessary for each of us to reach a stage of maturity so "that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine" (Ephesians 4:14). We can not live the Christian life alone. Christians are like a sailboat voyaging toward Christ. The Holy Spirit keeps us from slipping down wind like a boat's keel. God makes it possible for us to maintain our bearing no matter which way the winds or the currents of this world would take us. But each of us has a hand on the helm of our own boat, it is our responsibility to stay vigilant making the right rudder and sail corrections to stay on course. But the prerequisite for any spiritual growth to happen is to first invite Jesus into your life as Savior and Lord, "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21).
