The Ten Commandments are the pillars upon which all our laws rest. God gave us His Law so that we may come to recognize our need for His grace which was manifested in Jesus Christ, the living vine (John 15:5). The first step to salvation is realizing that you need a Savior, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). There is no grading on the curve with God, "for whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10). The penalty for not responding to Gods call to repentance and remaining in your sin is eternal punishment, "for the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Being saved by grace does not give us license to ignore the Law (see Hebrews 13:8 & Matthew 5:17). If you know you need Gods grace, receive Jesus as your Lord Savior and Lord by asking Him to come into your life, "for whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13).
