The Bible makes it clear that "without shedding of blood there is no remission" of sin (Hebrews 9:22). God demonstrated His provision for covering the sin of Adam and Eve by clothing them in an animals skin which meant that blood had to be shed (Genesis 3:21). The Law given to Moses included animal sacrifices which were required for God to forgive sin. Sacrificial animals had to be perfect, "without blemish," foreshadowing the ultimate sacrifice God would make for us by the sinless Christ. Jesus became the Lamb of God making it possible for our sins to be forgiven once and for all time (John 1:29). "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
